48 Hour Film Project
July 2015
A diligent group of students participated in the 48 Hour Film Project, in which teams are given certain requirements (a genre, a character, and a line of dialogue) and must write a script, shoot the film, and edit and submit within 48 hours. For the genre 'holiday film', they wrote all night and shot for twelve hours the next day, but sadly lost the footage due to a technical error. Still, students reported having a good experience as a filmmaking team, putting together what would have been an impressive film in a short amount of time. The images below include frame grabs from the shoot and a late evening pose from director Josh Helmick.

Summer Screenwriting Seminar
August 2014
This summer, a group of students gathered with the goal of each writing a feature-length screenplay in twelve weeks. Thanks to all those who participated, writing scripts or dropping in, and congrats to those who soldiered through! Special recognition goes to Jill Burns and Brianna Santiago for completing their scripts.
Brianna Santiago, "On the Other Side"

In a post-apocalyptic Vegas, a group of survivors battle for survival, and to stay human.
Audrey Balzart, "K-Drama Americano"
In this homage to Korean drama, two would-be lovers deal with deal with cultural and personal barriers.

48 Hour Film Project
May 2014
Prop: Painting.
Character: Tum or Tanya Twinterrs, a foreign exchange student.
Line: "There's only one way to know for sure."
These were the constraints given to the NSC Films team, who drew the genre 'Fish out of water'. The required elements were revealed Friday evening, with the film containing them due by the same time on Sunday. That meant writing, casting, finding locations, shooting the film, editing and finishing, and dropping it off.
Not only did the group of five students, with four dedicated actors (and one student performing double duty), complete the film within the 48 hours, they made a second film just for fun. And their film won an award.

Sundance
January 2014
A group of five students attended the prestigious Sundance 2014 film festival. With little sleep and braving crowds of filmgoers and temperatures below freezing, they saw every movie they could while also checking out art installations and test-driving the new Oculus Rift. Filmmakers were on hand for Q&A sessions following most films, and for the Saturday morning screening of They Came Together, students were treated to an uproarious session with Amy Poehler and Paul Rudd that was even funnier than the film.
