Thinking about a BA in English at Nevada State College?
When you enroll at NSC, you will join a close-knit community of student writers and scholars that create literary journals, present at academic conferences, and stay involved in student organizations. You will also work one-on-one with exceptional instructors in a unique program that explores theory, history, and emerging areas of literary study. It is an exciting time to be an NSC English major.
Unique Classes. At NSC, our exceptional faculty offer dynamic and innovative classes that will help you understand literature in new ways. In a given semester, you could take:
· A class on graphic novels as a literary form (ENG 277)
· A class that critically analyzes low-budget movies (ENG 477c)
· A class on “strange” literature and narratology (ENG 485)
· A course that pairs The Hunger Games with Orwell’s 1984. (ENG 298)
Our unique program focuses on critical analysis, historical surveys, and emerging areas of literary study.
Easy transfer. If you are coming to us from a community college, you can transfer up 60 credits toward your Bachelor of Arts degree. If you enroll as a fulltime student, you can be finished with your degree in as little as two years.
Engaging Projects. Our students learn through doing. In 2014, NSC English majors attended an academic conference, presented their work at another conference, published 300 Days of Sun (a literary journal), and formed writers groups to review their own creative work.
Honors Thesis. For students interested in really digging into a literary question, we offer the Honors Thesis option. In this program, students work one-on-one with a faculty member on an advanced literary project. It is a challenging task, but those who complete it learn a great deal about the complexities of literary study.
Exceptional Faculty. Our English faculty have PhDs in their areas of specialization, and are all dedicated teachers and scholars. When you transfer to NSC, you will have the chance to work closely with these faculty members to build upon all the knowledge you have gained at CSN.
